2010 Day of Action.
On the first day of summer, Monday, June 21, which also happens to be the longest day of the year, more than 50 volunteers from 20 local businesses spent some of the extra hours they gained during the summer solstice volunteering at COA Youth & Family Center on Milwaukee’s north side. Volunteers helped COA youth plant flowers, mulch garden beds and help with other landscaping work to create a welcoming home for each of the families and youth the center serves. Additionally, the volunteers helped give COA youth a meaningful camp experience by donating sunscreen, insect repellent, flashlights and sleeping bags. This event was a part of a national United Way Day of Action initiative that focuses on volunteerism, mobilizing thousands of people to complete community service projects across the country.
