Healthy Girls RFP

Requirements of Funding

  • Programs may apply for up to $50,000 one time per year.
  • Programs are encouraged to serve girls and boys.
  • Grantees are expected to provide a 25% cash or in-kind match.
  • Using United Way of Greater Milwaukee funds for stipends for program participants will not be considered.  Other incentives will be approved on a case by case basis.
  • If you are providing programming to reduce teen pregnancy you will be required to use one of two evidence-based curricula:
    Making Proud Choices (participants can be no younger than 11)
    Or, if working primarily with Latino/Latina teens, ¡Cuidate! (participants can be no younger than 13)
  • Teen sexual violence prevention programs MUST include at least one session on contraception
  • Programs MUST use the UWGM provided pre and post test; this may be in addition to other tools you currently use for different funding sources.
  • You will be required to report and analyze the results of one or two outcomes.  Data for the outcomes below are gathered using the provided pre and post tests:
    1. Increased Knowledge
      Outcome:  Participants understand the causes of pregnancy and STDs, as well as the methods of prevention.
    2. Change in Attitude
      Outcome:  Participants have goals for the future.
      Outcome:  Participants have a positive perception of self.
      Outcome:  Participants have an increased understanding and awareness of sexual victimization.
      Outcome:  Participants have an increased sense of responsibility for ones actions.
    3. Change in Intention
      Outcome:  Participants will have an increased desire to implement pregnancy prevention, safe-sex behavior in future interactions.
    4. Improved Skills
      Outcome:  Participants will demonstrate a positive change in self-reported ability to use condoms correctly.  
      Outcome:  Participants will demonstrate an increase in communication about sexual health with partners or a trusted adult.
  • Grantees will participate in technical assistance/networking opportunities hosted by the United Way of Greater Milwaukee.
  • The Healthy Girls Initiative programs will receive an on-site visit from members of the Healthy Girls Initiative Allocation Committee and a United Way staff person around four-five months of implementation.  Site visit requirements and expectations will be included with the award letter.
  • United Way of Greater Milwaukee requires that grantees acknowledge United Way's support through The Healthy Girls Initiative in publications and at appropriate events.

Application Timeline

March 16, 2012 - Eligibility application due by 4:30pm CST

March 19, 2012 - Response from United Way accepting/denying your eligibility application

March 22, 2012 - RFP training at United Way (225 W. Vine Street) 3-5pm CST

March 22, 2012 - RFP available

April 20, 2012 - RFP due by 4:30pm CST

What to expect next?  United Way staff will review your responses and will contact you via email to inform you whether or not your application is accepted.  If your application is accepted, you will receive further instructions on how to complete the RFP.
