Spotlight : Prevent "Summer Slide" with Books for Youth

Did you know that two-thirds of the achievement gap between lower- and higher-income youth can be explained by unequal access to summer learning opportunities?

You can help! Donate to the Summer Books program, and your dollars will go to the purchase of new books for children of all ages and reading levels, to be distributed at meal sites and community agencies throughout Milwaukee.

Change Won't Happen Without You - Volunteer with United Way

United Way organizes over seven large-scale volunteer programs each year. These programs help to connect individuals, families and employee groups to our over 80+ agency program partners throughout Greater Milwaukee.

  • Reader, Tutor, Mentor - Change a child’s story. In as little as an hour a month you can make a difference.

  • Season of Caring – September 3 - December 11, 2014. Companies, families and individuals can join us each Fall for volunteer engagement that connects thousands of committed volunteers to our agency program partners and local nonprofit organizations.

  • Emerging Readers – Perfect opportunity for everyone - share your love for reading with a local child. Participants are matched with a child for a three-part book donation throughout the year.

  • Intern Day of Action –  July 8, 2014. Student interns from United Way donor companies across Milwaukee come together in the spirit of volunteerism.

  • Day of Action – Saturday June 21, 2014. National volunteer effort held annually on the longest day of the year..

  • Family Engagement – Introduce your children to the power of giving back to your community through volunteerism.

  • Women's Job Seminar - Assist local women in building the skills they need to secure employment at this annual fall event.

United Way also partners with local organizations and agencies to facilitate supply drives for the community.
