Days of Caring

Days of Caring is two weeks of volunteer projects that take place throughout Greater Milwaukee. Local nonprofit organizations request help, and United Way mobilizes teams of volunteers from our partner companies to pitch in.

1The Assurant Health Foundation is the charitable arm of Assurant Health. The Foundation focuses on health care access and affordability, health promotion and disease prevention; and public policy initiatives in support of Consumer Choice in healthcare, as well as education and arts and culture.The Assurant Health Foundation awards grants ranging from $1,000 to $100,000 and supports only nonprofit, tax-exempt organizations with an active 501c(3) status under the IRS code.

Aurora LogoAs a not-for-profit organization with 13 hospitals, 100 clinics, and 140 community pharmacies, Aurora Health Care reinvests all of their net income back into the communities they serve – maximizing long-term societal benefits.Aurora is Wisconsin's largest provider of charity care which includes Investing $20 million in community outreach. In partnership with the UW Medical School, they operate community clinics in under-served neighborhoods, including Milwaukee.As Aurora reiterates, ". . . we strive to do what's in the long-term best interest of the people we serve, just as a doctor would for a patient."

BucyrusBucyrus International, Inc. is very active in helping the community through the Bucyrus-Erie Foundation which affiliates with over a dozen nonprofit organizations in a myriad of ways.Bucyrus President and CEO Tim Sullivan was one of the co-chairs for the 2007 United Way of Greater Milwaukee Community Campaign which raised a record 43.7 million dollars to help individuals in need in Greater Milwaukee. In 2008, Sullivan became the new chairman for United Way of Greater Milwaukee's Board of Directors.

Columbia St Mary's LogoColumbia St. Mary’s stresses community partnerships that are collaborative, strategic and sustainable. They feel that the best chance for success in addressing community health issues involves bringing together the resources of many organizations to find solutions.Columbia St. Mary’s commits more than $34 million (2006 figures) in financial support to patients, community driven sponsorships and collaborations. Their partnerships include working with community organizations, volunteers, donors, foundations and others to bring greater health and well-being to all within the community. With United Way of Greater Milwaukee, Columbia St. Mary's has provided strong volunteer leadership as well as sponsorships and other financial support.

1Fiduciary Management, Inc. has been a strong community partner with United Way, and its founder, Chairman, CEO & Partner Ted Kellner has donated his time and energy to be one of three Campaign Co-chairs for the 2005 Community Campaign.His enthusiasm heightened awareness and rallied United Way cabinet members to bring that year's Building Hope message to participating company employees and the general public.

1The Fleck Foundation was established in 1996 after the sale of Fleck Controls. It is dedicated to improving educational outcomes and helping those recovering from drug and alcohol abuse in the City of Milwaukee .Their sponsorship is directly in line with United Way of Greater Milwaukee's vision to provide safety net services and break the cycle of poverty in this community.

1Froedtert & Medical College of Wisconsin believes community partnerships are critical to community health. They work with the Medical College of Wisconsin’s Center for Healthy Communities to identify and address local health needs. Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin also partner with the Family House and Lisbon Avenue Community Clinics to meet healthcare needs in underserved areas.They are committed to expanding access to life-saving and life-improving care for the people in Milwaukee and beyond. And their exceptional resources as an academic medical center enables them to open healthcare doors for patients who need everything from basic healthcare to advanced specialty services.

11GE Healthcare serves each community they have a presence in through direct contributions and volunteering. In 2004, the GE family provided over $150 million in cash, products and service to local and global service organizations.Through the GE Foundation Matching Gift Program they increase the giving power of specific donors by increasing the impact of the gift two-fold. GE pioneered the matching gift concept in 1954. Now, nearly 9,000 companies worldwide have developed similar programs.

GKAt Godfrey & Kahn, the road to success is paved with a commitment to client service. They continue to serve their clients by first seeking to understand their business, their goals and their specific needs, whether in Wisconsin, across the United States or abroad. There the client comes first. Godfrey & Kahn measures their success by the success of their clients, just like United Way of Greater Milwaukee. They have been a great supporter of the Emerging Leaders Program.


harleyHarley-Davidson Motor Company fulfills dreams through the experience of motorcycling, by providing to motorcyclists and to the general public an expanding line of motorcycles and branded products and services. They have again generously donated motorcycles to with all donations from the raffle going towards United Way.


Johnson Controls LogoThe company funds the Johnson Controls Foundation which is operated for charitable purposes including the distribution and application of financial support to soundly managed and operated organizations or causes which are fundamentally philanthropic. One of their main goals is to promote diversity in the marketplace. This includes providing products and services reflecting the preferences of a global marketplace through the development and retention of a diverse and inclusive workforce with equal opportunity for all.


Lubar & Co. is an investment firm that acquires businesses in partnership with operating management and work as a team to develop and execute sound business plans to increase revenues and operating earnings. They helped our team at United Way of Grater Milwaukee to kick off another campaign year!


1Manpower is the world leader in in the employment services industry with a network of 4,300 offices in 72 countries. In each community they work in, they strive for social responsibility with programs designed to help those with disabilities enter the workforce to partnering with organizations such as the United Way to help fund local initiatives.As Manpower's Chairman and CEO Jeff Joerres states, "Our social responsibility program is very important work for all of us to accomplish."

BrewCrew The Milwaukee Brewers works hard as a team to overcome obstacles and works together to do so, just like at United Way of Greater Milwaukee. Their Hometown Team Program helped spread the word about United Way.


Northwestern Mutual LogoNorthwestern Mutual has been a strong United Way community partner since the early part of the 20th century. It was no surprise that it was the first corporate donor to surpass 3 million in donations in a single campaign year (2005), and has continued to donate this amount each year since that landmark total. Northwestern Mutual feels that to grow and prosper, communities require care and that enriching the entire community enriches its members. In fiscal year 2005, the foundation gave $13.2 million in gifts to support our mission in the Milwaukee area as well as in communities across the nation.

1PricewaterhouseCoopers has a long-standing partnership with United Way of Greater Milwaukee, contributing significantly to help the entire community.As one of the world's most preeminent professional services organizations, they not only have a solid value system with their clientele, but within the individual communities in which they serve.

1The Ralph Evinrude Foundation provides grants to many Milwaukee area charities and institutions. Their help was instrumental to United Way of Greater Milwaukee in providing funding for United Way's "Children of Children" exhibit in November of 2005.By providing the funding for the Leadership Challenge, The Ralph Evinrude Foundation again demonstrates their own leadership in providing for a healthier, more vital Greater Milwaukee.

1Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren s.c. is actively involved in the Milwaukee, Waukesha, Madison and Rockford communities by supporting existing charities and community groups. The firm helps fund these organizations through the financial and time commitments of its attorneys, paralegals and support staff, and each year donates to approximately 100 charities and support organizations throughout the communities it serves. Their attorneys and employees play active roles in these organizations as board members and directors and as strategic planners for steering and fundraising committees.

BairdRobert W. Baird & Co. Incorporated is a firm focused on putting clients first. Theirr belief is that integrity is irreplaceable and is ingrained in the way they do business.Their strong culture and commitment to diversity reates a team of employees passionate about achieving great results for clients and giving back to the communities where they live and work.


Roc At Rockwell Automation helping manufacturers grow and succeed is what they do best. They are also great at spreading the joys of caring through their support of "Days of Caring."


1Time Warner Cable places a high priority on good corporate citizenship and public service. By reaching out to local governments, educational institutions and non-profit organizations, they develop and provide programs, services and reources tailored to benefit customers and communities alike. Time Warner Cable provides free educational support to the community through initiatives such as Cable in the Classroom and Cable’s High Speed Education Connection. Its employees are active volunteers and devote personal time for community service projects. The company also supports individual, non company-related projects benefiting local communities through employees’ personal involvement. Four times each year, Time Warner’s Employee Volunteer Grant program awards grants to fund such varied nonprofit local initiatives.
