Mary

Mary was abused as a child and witnessed her mother’s abuse by her father. Her mother died while she was a teenager, leaving her to care for her brothers and sisters. She learned that alcohol seemed to help her get through it.

She married a man like her father. She worked, tended as best she could to her home and children, but continued to seek relief from her husband’s abuse in alcohol and cocaine. Mary eventually lost her job, then her home and children.

Then Mary was introduced to the United Way-supported Residential Treatment program at Meta House. Mary beat her addictions and was reunited with her son. She is working and providing a safe and drug-free home for her family. Thanks to United Way, Mary now has the building blocks she needs to build a strong family.
