(Milwaukee, WI – September 5, 2003) Nearly 1200 volunteers from all walks of life will give something back to the community next week during United Way of Greater Milwaukee's ninth annual Day of Caring Week. The weeklong event will officially kick off on Monday, September 8 and continue through Friday, September 12.

Volunteers from local companies and organizations have offered their time and talents to complete nearly 110 projects and 50 supply drives at 75 non-profit agencies during United Way's Day of Caring Week. United Way of Greater Milwaukee recently kicked-off the 2003 Community Campaign and seeks to raise over $35 million for local health and human service programs.

Sue Dragisic, president of United Way of Greater Milwaukee, says Day of Caring Week is a great way for people to connect to their local community. "Voluntarism has really been on the rise. Day of Caring not only provides people with the opportunity to volunteer their time and talents. It is also an incredible educational experience. Day of Caring projects give volunteers the ability to see firsthand the important services provided to our community by a variety of nonprofit agencies."

During Day of Caring Week, volunteers from nearly 50 area companies will work on a variety of projects including painting, gardening, woodworking and home repair, as well as leading a variety of recreational field-trips to the zoo and public museum.

For more information about Day of Caring Week, or for customized photo/story opportunities for Day of Caring projects from Monday, September 8 through Friday, September 12, please call Robyn McGill at United Way, 414-263-8132.
